I love my 2 puppies. They greet me when I come home with happy faces and tails that won’t stop wagging. They cuddle with me when I am lonely. I can talk to them when the house is quiet. They don’t require too much cooking to feed them. They encourage me to get outside and exercise. And they fill the empty space in my bed where my spouse used to sleep. Why wouldn’t a person like that?

I have 2 King Charles Cavaliers, Kallie and Keoni. They are sweet, gentle and loving pups. I have had Kallie for over 10 years and Keoni is my newest addition of only 2 years. Now I understand not all people are dog lovers. Some people really like cats. I found this quote that I thought was funny.

“Dogs come when they’re called; cats take a message and get back to you later.” ~ Mary Bly

I used to have a cat, Pika, for 12 years. They are good to snuggle with too and their purr is very comforting. But I just got sick of the litter box. Although some people take the easy way and get fish. But they can be awfully difficult to snuggle with.

No matter the type there is something healing about animals. In fact people have been studying this for quite some time. Research has proven that people heal faster, become stronger and depression lifts when you interact with an animal. Therese J. Bochard listed 6 ways pets relieve depression:

  1. Pets offer a soothing presence.
  2. Pets offer unconditional love and acceptance.
  3. Pets alter our behavior.
  4. Pets distract.
  5. Pets promote touch.
  6. Pets make us responsible.

I believe this to be very true. I found that my pups are able to show me empathy and love me unconditionally. It was like I could say anything or be in any kind of mood and they would love me anyways. And that alone brought me comfort at a very lonely and difficult time.

So when you feel like no one loves you, consider getting a pet. They will love you no matter what.

Blessings,

Krista
