Walk-by-Faith“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord, for we WALK BY FAITH NOT BY SIGHT.”  2 Cor. 5:6,7

What does this verse say to you?  Paul tells us that followers of Jesus must not build their lives around things that have no eternal significance.  The world pursues things, possessions, fame, recognition, competition, etc.  We are to live with eternity in mind.

To walk by faith is to fear God more than man (fear means being in awe, not scared); to obey the Bible even when it conflicts with man’s expectations, to trust God in every circumstance.  We are to live a life pleasing to Him and representing Him well.

This all begins the moment we put our trust and faith in the Lord God and accepts His unconditional love for us.  This is easy to do if we grew up in a God-honoring family.  This is easy to say, but very hard to do if your family was filled with chaos. Especially difficult if your parents were super involved in the church, but were entirely different people at home.  We hear many stories of a childhood filled with abuse from their parents who were pastors, deacons, elders, Sunday School teachers, etc.  There is great shame for these children and a life full of lies, secrets, betrayal, spiritual abuse, etc.  Children who suffer this type of abuse can grow up to be very skeptical of anything religious, bitter and resentful and sort of live in a shadow.  Just the name Heavenly Father will send them into memories of their earthly father and the abusive past they suffer from.

Walk by faith….if you have lived through abuse from a parent or had painful experiences in and around the church experience, please begin to peal it off and seek God for yourself.  He didn’t cause those experiences, but for some reason He allowed them.   Reasons you may never know.    The enemy has covered you and defined you in his lies long enough; lies from the pit of Hell.  It’s over.  Don’t let him have this power over you anymore.  Those who have hurt you will stand alone before the Lord someday and answer for what they did; just like we all will.

Beginning today, make your walk of faith your own.  One step at a time.  Seek Scripture about who God says you are and begin to walk in THAT truth.   Walk by faith, not by lies and bad memories.

“If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”  I John 1:6,7
